Our first graders are working on respectful collaboration and communication. One of their strategies is to use hand signals to show what they are thinking. Mrs. Jenkins’ class shared their signals with me this week in the iLab.
Last week, our 5th graders enjoyed a salad made with lettuce grown right in our school lobby as part of their lunch. On September 8, Lutherville students and staff welcomed over 200 tiny monarch caterpillars. Since then, we have observed their growth and amazing transformation. Our primary classes have been visiting the iLab for one last lesson, and this one combines chemistry with a favorite outdoor activity. Students read a set of directions, then combined water, paint, and plaster of Paris to create a batch of sidewalk chalk. Our youngest engineers spent a week collaborating and creating catapults. They then took advantage of the spring weather with an outdoor launch near the car loop. What fun!
