First graders are learning about how temperature and weather are related in their science classes. Today, students used our Go!Temp probes to check the temperature of different locations in our building and around our grounds. Some groups used our laptops, while other groups got the chance to use our new handheld LabQuest to collect data. Look closely to find the stainless steel temperature probe in each of the photos above.
The coolest temperature was in the computer lab and the hottest temperature was the sidewalk just outside our front door. First graders, can you comment and tell us what those temperatures were?
Ms. Korn's Class
It was a lot of fun doing this investigation. Using the tools helped tell the temperature in the school and outside. The hottest place was the sunny pavement in front of our school. It was 101 degrees Fahrenheit. The coolest place was actually the library. It was 73 degrees Fahrenheit. Thank you for letting us be the first ones to use the handheld LabQuest. Why do you think the library was the coolest?
rihana
The library is the coolest cause books can absorb heat.
I have heard from my senior, don’t know right or wrong.
The coolest place in our school is canteen.

May be a motivate lesson from students.
BTW,Ms. Korn’s Class” yr library is the coolest because of air-conditions?

Hi Cinthia! Thank you for commenting on our blog.
We DO have air-conditioning in our library, but not in all of the areas of our building. Good thinking!
At our school, we have air conditioning in the office, nurse’s suite, and computer lab. Our classrooms, cafeteria, and gymnasium do not have air conidtioning. We do not go to school during the summer, so we do not have to handle the heat from late June through August. We do have some hot days in early September when we begin the school year – it can be tough to pay attention to lessons when we are all sweating! 🙂 We also tend to have hot days in late May and June. Sometimes we only have half days when it gets so hot.
Is it hot at your school?

Thanks for commenting on our blog, Rihana! What room is the “canteen” at your school? We don’t hear that word often here in the US. Where is your school located?
I apologize for not posting your comment earlier. We are on summer holiday until August 29.
