Grade 5 News Club – A Behind the Scenes Look at the Communications Club

student-news-color

For those that are curious about how the announcements are made, this is a behind the scenes post about how students do the announcements each day. Nicholas M. and Sam Zeigler made this post and we got the information from Ms.Volker (thanks Ms.Volker!). This is in a Q&A organization.

1.How does communications club get the images that are usually shown at the end of the announcements?

Our school recently purchased some new equipment–a tricaster, soundboard, cameras, and microphones.  We are all learning to use the new equipment–and learn some green screen tricks.  The images you see are either part of templates supplied by the equipment or student made jpegs.

2.How hard is it to do the announcements five days a week?

We are fortunate that we have some very responsible, committed students that are learning to use the equipment and they run the show….from scripts to anchoring!

3.How do you usually get the weather (not including online)?

The weather can be a quick look outside, but to get the specifics, temperature, barometric pressure, sunrise/sunset times we do use online weather sources (wbal and weather.com).

4.How do you get everybody’s birthdays?

The front office (thank you, Mrs. Wulff) provides us with a student birthday list.

5.Who created “The Leopards Pledge”?

The Leopards Pledge was created by our former principal, Mr. Buettner, when he came to Lutherville and discovered that we did not have a school wide pledge.

6.Before you used the Prometheans to show the announcements, what did you use?

Announcements were shown on the TVs that are/were in each classroom before we started using the Promethean boards.
