Our sister school in Taiwan sent us photos of their recent butterfly study. Students there observed a “Black Veins Monarch Butterfly”, “Monarch Butterfly” and “African Monarch” from caterpillar to transformation. We never knew there were different kinds of monarchs!
Mrs. Myers
Mrs. Myers’ class wanted to tell the students thank you for sharing pictures of the different types of monarchs. We were also surprised to find out that there are different types of monarchs. We were wondering if all types of monarchs lay their eggs on milkweed plants and do the caterpillars eat only milkweed?
Maisie and Kim
Wow! That butterfly is really cool! How many are there? or is there only one? I’ve never heard of a butterfly like that!
Maisie and Kim
Wow ! I have never seen a butterfly like that.😉
Addison C.
There are many kinds and types of butterflies! You can find them all over the world and country!
Deidre Austen
So true, Addison! Do you have a favorite kind of butterfly?
Edith
What do the Black Vein and African Monarch Caterpillars look like?
Gabby
That does not look like a monarch butterfly from our school. Our monarch is more yellow and orange.

Colleen B.
Those are really cool butterflies! I never knew that there were different kinds of monarchs. They look just the monarchs that I’ve seen except there white and black instead of orange and black. What do the catterpillars look like?
Deidre Austen
Great question, Colleen. Hopefully we will hear from our sister school in Taiwan and find out the answer.
Devon E.
I really like the black and white butterflies. What kind of butterfly is it? Are the related to the monarch butterfly?
Deidre Austen
I liked the black and white butterfly too, Devon.
Reread the post, and I bet you can figure out what type of butterfly it is.
